Gītā Chanting Competition 2025

As envisioned by Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, the Gītā Chanting competition is a unique annual event organized by Chinmaya Mission Centers worldwide and is open to all students interested in the Bhagavad Gītā.

 Here are the details of the CMDFW GCC 2025:

 

Children’s Chanting Competition

Adults Chanting Competition:

When: Saturday, April 26th, 2025

Where: Chinmaya Chitrakoot

Time: 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM

Chapter: Chapter 5

When : Friday, April 25th, 2025

Where: Chinmaya Saaket

Time: 7:00 PM

Chapter: Chapter 5

Chanting format (memory category):

  • Participants will chant from memory and are expected to chant the chapter 5 opening and first three shlokas. The judge then prompts the last pādaḥ of another shloka. The participant recalls and chants the subsequent five shlokas that follow the prompted pādaḥ. There will be 3 such rounds of prompting & chanting followed by the closing shloka of Chapter 5.

  • Participants in the reading and memory category will chant shlokas 1 – 29 from start to finish. They will not be quizzed on ending pādaḥ.
  • Participants in the reading categories are required to chant the assigned shlokas by reading them with clarity in pronunciation and rendition.

Learn Gītā Initiative:

As part of the Learn Gītā Initiative, all BalaVihar children are introduced to key words from Chapter 5.  A vocabulary quiz will be administered after the Chanting Competition or Yajña, in the center, for BalaVihar students attending Grades 1 – 12. This Quiz shall be based on the Vocabulary lists published for the various grade-groups (by CM West).

For Matsya and kūrma groups, children are tested on their knowledge of the meaning of the vocabulary words by matching the words to their meanings.

For the Varāha group, children are tested on their knowledge of the meaning of the vocabulary words by matching the words to their meanings, as well by choosing the correct meaning from 4 different choices.

Yuva talks:

Only for grades 10, 11 and 12

Topics

1.     Attitude of a saint, karma-yogi, or a yukta-purushah

(Dissolve the Ego) Verses 5.8 – 5.10

2.    Secret to Happiness

      (Understand Joy and Grief) Verses 5.21 – 5.23

Participants will speak for 3 – 5  minutes on one of the above suggested topics. The Yuva Talks explain the students’ reflections on the selected Bhagavad Gita Shlokas in their own words. Please include anecdotes or personal experiences to explain the topic. Describe how you intend to apply the messages in your life. Students should ensure that their explanation ties back to the philosophical teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. Students are also encouraged to relate the teachings to modern issues or everyday life to showcase relevance.

Be prepared to answer questions on the selected topic or presented material.

Note: Chanting of the related verses is optional.
