Gita Chanting
The Bhagavad Gita is a manual for living — a guide to a meaningful, fulfilling life here and now. Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda breathed, lived, and taught the Gita throughout his life, carrying its message to millions. For that reason, the Srimad Bhagavad Gita sits at the very heart of Chinmaya Mission.
Gurudev’s instruction was simple: Chant, Learn, and Live the Gita. Chanting comes first — and from the recitation grows the desire to understand, then the knowledge itself, and finally the quiet fulfillment that knowledge brings. Gita Chanting lets a child — or an adult — begin that journey right now.
Gita Chanting Competition
The annual Bhagavad Gita Chanting Competition (GCC) inspires children and adults alike to learn, memorize, and assimilate the verses of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita. In keeping with Gurudev’s vision, it helps plant the seed of Gita jnana in every member — deepening our awareness of the Self and the true purpose of life through chanting and comprehension.
This year’s program (2025–26)
In celebration of Chinmaya Mission’s 75th anniversary, this year’s program covers two chapters of the Bhagavad Gita. Chapter 15 is studied during Fall 2025, and the 2026 competition focuses on Chapter 12.
The Yoga of the Supreme Spirit. Using the image of an inverted Ashvattha tree for the impermanent material world, it describes the Supreme Being and the path to liberation through detachment and self-realization.
The Yoga of Supreme Devotion. It weighs worship of the formless (Nirguna), worship with form (Saguna), and the path of action — and Bhagavan Krishna describes the qualities of the devotee dearest to Him.
Gita Panchamrit
Pujya Guruji and Pujya Swami Swaroopananda ji have chosen five verses from the Bhagavad Gita that capture the essence of its teaching. These are for everyone to learn, chant daily, and memorize — there is no competition attached. The goal is simply for every child and adult to carry these verses with them.
