Story Time
Once a month our young emergent learners (ages 3 to 6) meet for their Story Time. In October 2008 Gauthami didi was dressed up as King Kuber and read “Ganesha Goes to Party”. It concluded with a little dance number, “Great God Ganapathi”. In November 2008, she dressed up as a Gopika and read “Krishna Photocopies Himself” and concluded with a song, “God Is One”. A puppet show was organized in December 2008. Needless to say, this puppet show on “The Three Little Pigs” was a HUGE HIT with the kids! At the end of the puppet show the kids sat in a circle and Gauthami didi continued to read other Classic Fairy Tales (Snow White, and Goldiocks and the Three Bears). We had 27 children attend the puppet show. We certainly want to keep the momentum going and have plans of making it bigger and better each month. We will soon incorporate acting and music to add a unique flavor to this mix. Madhavi Menta and Madhuri Shukla have been a tremendous help.
We now offer an exclusive membership to the Book Club that meets once a month for Story Time. We currently have 22 members and each month the attendance seems to increase. The children have a mini-induction into the club. They bring their membership sheet that lists all the stories they participated in. Gauthami didi acknowledges it with a Happy Face Sticker. What does she get in return? Simply seeing the kids smile is enough for her to keep going and going and going – just like the Energizer battery that recharges itself and energizes everyone else around with her charm!
